Another Oldie But Goodie - the Original Potato Toppings List

Posted to the McDougall Recipe board on VegSource, taken from Sandie's now-defunct Geocities site. There are variations of it on the official McDougall forums, too. Just do a search of the forums for "potato toppings list" and a number of posts will pop up.

* Pot Roastless Potato--steamed carrots & onions inside a baked potato, smothered with veg gravy
* Black Bean Beauties (bbq onions w/pureed black beans
* Martha Stewart Garlic Roasted Potatoes
* mushroom stroganoff
* Bragg's Liquid Aminos
* balsamic vinegar
* lentil sloppy joe
* stir fry with sweet and sour sauce
* coleslaw
* fresh butternut squash with fresh pepper and vegan "butter".
* mashed avocado on mashed potatoes with a little lemon, salt and pepper
* Salad Potato--not quite the same as "potato salad"...dice (really small) cucumber and tomato and let it sit in Seasoned Rice Vinegar while the potato is cooking--then add it along with a few sliced black olives-- salt and pepper. This is good because it's got the hot/cold thing going on--and the seasoned rice vinegar is sweet/salty.

Big Potato Meets Big Apple

That giant potato that's been making its way around the country finally landed in my neighborhood.

This would be a nice miracle of nature. Notice the big sign that says "It's REAL"? Well, it's not. It's fiberglass. It's been going around for a few years already.

Still, it's nice to dream, right?

Especially now that I'm testing potatoes again and did NOT have a reaction of any type to Gold potatoes. And I took a few nibbles from a russet the other day and no throat scratchiness. I have a feeling I had just overdone it and my body said "No more! Enough is enough!" after eating spuds for multiple meals a few days in a row. Perhaps if I limit them to once or twice a week things should get back to normal.

Webinar on Sugar

Preview of the New McDougall Book

I got an interesting email from the McDougall people:

THE HEALTHIEST DIET ON THE PLANET
Dear Friend,

Let’s start with the bad news: The modern American diet isn’t making us healthier. In fact, it’s responsible for chronic illnesses and disease.

How do I know this? If the illnesses were genetic, all generations would exhibit the same illnesses. But the younger generation that has grown up on the Western diet is more prone to obesity, heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes and other chronic conditions.

Now the good news: To the surprise of many, a starch-based diet can undo the damage you’ve done to your body over the years and lead to lasting weight loss and decreased cholesterol. For more of my research on this, enjoy a sneak preview of my new book, THE HEALTHIEST DIET ON THE PLANET. Here's a link to chapter 3, The Healthiest Diet vs. Fad Diets.

In my new book, on sale September 27, Mary and I share our collective experience from 45 years of observing patients, gathering knowledge, and living healthy ourselves. Pre-order my book now to see how easy and delicious it is to turn your health around and feel better than you have in years.

Here’s to living your healthiest!

Beatles Without Music

IDK why, but I found this hysterical. Lack of sleep, perhaps?

Webinar - Another McDougall Q&A

It was supposed to be Dr. Doug Lisle, but technical difficulties prevented him from being able to log in to the chat program, so a quick phone call to the McDougall household got Dr. McD away from his toast and into the living room with his laptop. It was so cute, watching Mary reaching from off-screen fussing with his hair! I hope Gustavo didn't edit that part out - it's little things like that that show his softer side instead of the constant barrage of proclamations and insults.

Published on Aug 12, 2016
In this live webinar, Dr. McDougall talks about Child obesity; Breastfeeding vs. Bottle Feeding; Contaminated breast milk, How long to breastfeed a child; how to transition to solid food; does sugar promote growth of cancer and fungus?; carbs and high glucose levels; how to read tell if a study or research is credible or not.

Changes to the Newer Instant Pots

New Features Instant Pot Duo Version 2

The link above goes to a pressure cooker blog, and they explain the minor changes to the latest version of the Instant Pot Duo. It proves I wasn't going crazy or had a broken pot when my Manual button would give me the last set time instead of the default 30 minutes, why some people were talking about detachable cords, and now people CAN turn off the beep.

Here's a handy dandy chart from that site explaining all the changes:
