This is how I imagine my food acts after watching me cook a few weeks of Jeff Novick's SNAP meals!
Someone tried to post this to the McDougall Friends Facebook community but it was removed. Since my son is a BIG fan of anime (as are all his engineering friends), I just had to seek it out and watch it for myself. I'm glad I did.The series the clip comes from is based on a manga (comic book) called Magical Witch Puni-chan, in case you wanted to know.
Vegan food posts for Starchivores who follow Dr. McDougall, Dr. Esselstyn, Rip Esselstyn, Chef AJ, and others - recipes or links to them and photos when available.

Webinar - Starch Solution Questions - Beans Question Finally Answered
In today's webinar, Gustavo Tolosa takes some of the questions most asked via email about the Starch Solution. In actuality, he asked one or 2 questions he already had on paper, took the rest from the chat box.
YES! He finally asked the question I submitted numerous times! BEANS ARE STILL LIMITED TO ONE CUP A DAY!
I wrote to both Dr. McDougall and to the webinar@drmcdougall.com address asking him to address this and it wasn't until Gustavo saw it in the chat window that Gustavo finally asked it. So, although the Starch Solution doesn't mention any limitation and The Color Picture Book pictures it with other starches in the Green Light - Unlimited category, beans and legumes are still restricted to one cup a day. And he then says what Dr. Fuhrman said a few years ago during the ASW debate, that he can't see anyone wanting to eat more than a cup a day, anyway. Come on, Doc! One cup is less than one can, and I know LOADS of people who can eat more than a can of beans a day!

Jeff Novick Shopping in Publix
I thought I had shared this recipe ages ago but can't find it on the blog.
Here's Jeff Novick shopping for foods not in Whole Foods this time but his local Publix grocery store in Florida. When we lived in Kissimmee we did a lot of shopping in Publix. It's just a plain old chain grocery store with reasonable prices. I don't remember ours being as well-stocked as this one, but hey, things have changed a lot everywhere in the past 15 years!
Now that we're experiencing our third winter here in NJ with record-breaking snow levels my husband is determined to get back to Florida, even though he's the one that insisted we move back to NJ after only a few months living down there. He deeply regrets it and has apologized profusely repeatedly, especially in the days after 9/11, again after Sandy, and after every flake of snowfall the past few years.

UWL YouTube Playlist
Are you doing the Ultimate Weight Loss Program or any of Dr. McDougall's programs?
Do you like YouTube videos?
If you said "Yes" to either of the above, you'll love this playlist I just found. It's entitled Ultimate Weight Loss and contains videos by such stars in the WFPB no-SOS world as Dr. Allen Goldhamer, Dr. Doug Lisle, Chef AJ, and our very own Dr. John McDougall!
OK, so out of the 50+ videos, most are the Chef AJ telephone interviews with various professionals, but it's nice to have them all listed in one place:

Yesterday's McDougall Webinar - You Didn't Miss It (POST EDITED)
Dr. McDougall was having audio problems and it started about 25 minutes late, and since he had to leave early they decided to hold off on the Top 20 Starch Solution Questions until next week. Instead he spoke a few minutes about the PCRM lawsuit and said that's the topic of this month's newsletter article, too.
The webinar page announces the webinar but doesn't have the usual registration link. Let's see if Gustavo sends the info via email.
Edited to add:
Not yet, but he did send the link to the replay of the 15 minutes Dr. McD did talk.

Seeing videos like this make me so jealous, and so sad that our closest TJ/WF are over an hour away, through Holland and Lincoln Tunnel and George Washington Bridge traffic areas.

A Certain Chef Is Having a (Paid) Webinar
A certain chef is having another webinar with Dr. Gustavo Tolosa this Thursday, January 21, 2016. In it she'll share 10 never before made public on the Internet recipes, and she says they're all compatible with her program. That also means they're safe for McDougallers, even those on the MWLP version.
Unlike Dr. McDougall's free webinars, she's charging $9.97 until Thursday morning, calling it a sale (regular price $39???), and stating it's a bargain at less than a dollar a recipe. The ingredient list will be sent out to those who registered ahead of the event so participants can gather the ingredients and cook along with her and ask questions along the way.
The site itself does not say that this is being recorded for those who can't see it live but Dr. Tolosa said on the super private FB site that it is, but for one week only, until January 31.
The recipes are:
- Enlightened Portabello Mushroom Stronganoff
- Best NO BEAN Veggie Burgers
- Crispy Breakfast Potatoes
- 2 kinds of crackers (a Savory Oat Cracker and a mildly sweet Apple Jack Cracker)
- Sweet Potato Bisque
- Herbed Quinoa "Tabbouleh"
- risOATto with Shitake Mushrooms, Sundried Tomatoes and Fresh Basil
- Almost Instant Apple Pie Rice Pudding
- Blueberry Mill-Oat Muffins
I'll wait for the cookbook or when they appear on Foody videos.

McDougall on TV - Old Shows
A while back I posted a playlist that had the Hello YouTube Channel list of subtitled videos from when Dr. McDougall was on Lifestyles Magazine and his own McDougall's Medicine tv shows. A few months ago that playlist vanished.
I found another.

Dr. McDougall's Next Book: The Healthiest Diet on the Planet
No cover art yet, but Amazon is now taking pre-orders for the next (last?) book by Dr. McDougall:
The Healthiest Diet on the Planet: Why the Foods You Love - Pancakes, Potatoes, Pasta, and More - Are the Solution to Preventing Disease and Looking and Feeling Your Best
What a long title!
It's not coming out until September, and will be in both print and e-book/Kindle version.
I was accused of being a wet blanket on the official forums when I didn't show extreme enthusiasm about the book when I mentioned how we all read what's going in it already (Color Picture Book and newsletter articles). Dr. McD himself wasn't all that enthused and sounded like he's only doing it for the paycheck, which was a hefty one, he hinted. I don't begrudge the good doctor the income from the book - he's probably aiming to retire in the not-too-distant future and could use the extra in his nest egg. He's already announced that this upcoming McDougall Hawaii trip will be the last and has hired another doctor (or 2?) to assist at the 10-day and ASW programs because it's become too much for him to do alone. But a published book of the Color Picture Book and newsletter articles? I wasn't too enthused with a lot of the articles when they first appeared the past few years. Some of them he just took web posts from other McDougallers; many of the others he had covered the subjects in the past, both in print/pixels or in videos. How many more times are we to hear the story of he and his father walking down the street oogling girls, proclaiming that only thin women are f***able (but in more polite terms)? The diet of Eskimos? Diet is better than pills for hypertension? The debates between low carb/Mediterranean/Paleo, etc. and high carb? His hatred of flu vaccines? I read them once, don't need to read them again. If I do, I can just go to the newsletter archive page. Yes, they're staying in the archives even though the same exact articles will appear in the book. He said he insisted to the publisher that the info remain free on the site.
Unless something drastic happens that will call for us to greatly curtail our non-essential spending, I'll buy the book, because as I wrote on the forums, I own everything else that I could get my hands on already. Will I buy both the Kindle and paper versions like I did some other books? Probably not. Will I encourage others to buy it? It depends. I still refer people to the old McDougall Plan or McDougall Program: 12 Days to Dynamic Health books or even MWLP before the newest one, The Starch Solution. Unless this book is vastly different than he said in the last 2 webinars that it will be, I don't see that changing.

Veggies for Breakfast Community
For those following the food program of a certain person who advises a pound or 2 of non-starchy vegetables before any other meal first thing in the morning, a.k.a. VFB - Veggies for Breakfast - a new closed Facebook community was started the other day called Veggies for Breakfast (VFBs) Rock! Unlike the super secret community for the program itself, anyone can request to join this one, according to this blog post introducing it.
The community promotes photographs of everyone's VFB meals, and for those who don't know what VFBs are, community leader Wendy explains in the description. For details on the food plan itself and links to some videos describing it, Wendy's blog can give you what you need.
Even if you don't follow that particular food plan, seeing these veggie combinations can give you a good idea of what side dishes to serve with you starchy McDougall meals. And since some of these photos show potatoes or grains with the veggies, just add a bit more starch so it fills at least half the plate and you've got a nice recipe-less one dish MWLP meal.
