R.I.P. the free McDougall forums

R.I.P. the free McDougall forums.

I never got the email notice some said they received announcing the closure back on May 30th, even though I've been a member of the boards since 2000 in its first iteration on the VegSource servers. It can still be seen via the Wayback Machine link: https://web.archive.org/...//www.vegsource.com/mcdougall/
I've been busy with my husband and his latest round of chemo and hadn't been online much since June 1st. When I went to the message boards yesterday I saw this banner at the top of the pages:

"Our Forums contain decades of valuable questions, experiences, and shared knowledge from the McDougall community, and we are happy to keep this information available for everyone. While the forums are now read-only and closed to new posts, all existing content will remain accessible just as it has always been.

"For ongoing support, conversation, and interaction with both the McDougall Team and fellow community members, we invite you to join our Starch Solution Community. We are looking forward to continuing to learn from and grow with one another there!"

Spud Fit Challenge 2016 - day 30 - Spud Fit cooking show!

An 8 year old Spud Fit video. I'm going to try this with potato starch when I get home this weekend. That's where my non-stick pans and potato flour are.

Now that my husband's dialysis is down to only 2 days a week we're able to spend more time away from my brother's house and more home again. But most, but not all, of my healthy foods and cooking stuff has already been moved to my brother's. I now have to restock my apartment with the spices, condiments, and utensils I use the most.

Our son has taken over the kitchen and pantry with all his own foods and stuff so there's not much room for our stuff any more.

We're a couple without a home, visitors in both my brother's and our own apartment.

The Chef and The Dietitian #51 - Split Pea Soup in the pressure cooker

Going through old videos and copying them with captions to save on my phone. He's an oldie but goodie even my carnivore brother loves.

Disease Reversal Hope - The Film

Nothing we don't already know, but a nice way to spend some times indoors instead of outside in oppressive 95º+ heat.

SEALING MASON JARS WITH FOODSAVER FOR LONG TERM STORAGE

My brother's pantry - and my jars of Harmony House dehydrated celery and onion - have been attacked by pantry moths! I had switched the 2 piece metal lids on my jars with plastic ones years ago, so now I'm busy finding and putting them back on the jars. Maybe I'll finally get myself one of these FoodSaver Vacuum Seal units and use that to keep the critters out, too.

All Hail the Potato!

The social worker at my husband's dialysis center is transferring to another unit, and this week she's giving each patron an info package to hang on to, a thank you card, and some little gifts. This was in a little mesh bag along with a few lollipops. My husband laughed and said he would have preferred a real potato to the candy!

It's nice to know that some other people realize the mighty power of the potato!

Sheldon - strip for December / 30 / 2022 - Best of 2023! Part 5

Sheldon - strip for December / 30 / 2022 - Best of 2023! Part 5: Sheldon is a sarcastic, nerdy, family-friendly comic strip filled with pop-culture references and fun, random storylines. At its center is this weird, wonderful little family: a billionaire boy, his talking duck, & the grandfather that raises them both.
