Forgot to Add this to the Videos Post

My head is still messed up from this bronchitis thing.

I forgot to add one of the most important link of all to the post about Jeanne Schumacher's videos!!

Dr. McDougall is now featuring her videos on his web site! The link is in the drop down menu under Education/Recipes/Featured Recipe Videos.

I can't wait until I feel healthy again, physically AND mentally! I may be sleeping better but I'm still coughing the rest of the time. Still waiting for the steroids to finally kick in.

McDougall-Based Videos to Watch

McDougaller Jeanne Schumacher has been making short little videos of the foods from the McDougall books and newsletters that she's been making. She also has a bunch of interviews with some big names in the WFPB world, like Pam Popper, Jane Esselstyn, and even our beloved Dr. John McDougall.

She posts them to her YouTube page, as well as her own web site called Plant Powered, which has loads of information on WFPB eating, including links to the biggies' web sites, resources, even recipes. Her sites are well worth the visit.

Here's the video with Dr. McDougall, where he talks about starting the Maximum Weight Loss program:

Qigong with Lee Holden

I've mentioned this man's qigong videos before, and just found another YouTube channel he has. There you'll find a number of these short workouts, many for pain and stress relief as well as general well-being. A great introduction to the art!

McDougall on TV - Old Shows

A while back I posted a playlist that had the Hello YouTube Channel list of subtitled videos from when Dr. McDougall was on Lifestyles Magazine and his own McDougall's Medicine tv shows. A few months ago that playlist vanished.

I found another.

I Really Need an iPod of My Own

Disney/Pixar has released this short called Lava that was shown with Inside/Out. I haven't seen that movie so don't know if it's part of the movie or an extra, but I'm sure int'll be included on the DVD/Blu-Ray when it comes out. It has to be!

Anyway, they're letting users of iPods, iPhones and some other Apple product users see it in its entirety for a limited time through the Disney Movies Anywhere app from iTunes, ONLY. Android users are out of luck, as are those of us who access our DMA accounts from our computers.

Luckily my son allows me to borrow his iPod when I need it for things like the FOK or McDougall Cookbook apps. After troubleshooting the app for almost an hour he realized all he had to do was update it and he finally got it to work. He then gave me the iPod back to watch it. Like most Disney flicks, this one had me in tears at one point.

Here's a still shot from the short with the complete song. Enjoy!

Here's a 40 second clip to show an example of the completed animation:

End Dieting Forever Coming Soon to PBS

Dr. Fuhrman's new infomercial for PBS, End Dieting Forever, based on his book, The End of Dieting, starts airing in the NYC area on August 9, 2014 on Channel 13.

I can't figure out how to nab the clip, but you can see a 30 second promo for it here at the PBS web site.

Maybe I better finish reading the book before it airs.

The Weaver Family - and The Potato Song

I guess instead of posting Star McDougallers on his web site first, Dr. McDougall is now doing them on his Facebook page.

Today, the story is about the Weaver family - Rachael, Michael and children - and in the references at the end is the link to the Potato Song the family wrote and sung for the McDougall's at Vegetarian Summerfest 2013.

I'm gonna be humming this all day now!

And will go nuke up some potatoes for lunch.

Chef AJ's Yummy Sauce

When I first saw this sauce in her last video I tried to guess at the main ingredient and said it looked like tahini. I was wrong - it's cannelini beans. It looks similar to some cheeze sauce recipes out there - subtract the dates and add nooch.

I have an opthamalogist appointment tomorrow so I'll be partially blind for a few hours afterwards (I HATE those dilating eye drops!) and plan on making Jeff Novick's Simple Everyday Meal for dinner. I'll be tossing the frozen veg into the nuker, the Success rice into boiling water, and I'll be making this sauce by Chef AJ later today so all I have to do is heat it up in the microwave when it's time to sit and eat. An easy meal to make when my vision is still too blurry to read print.

Thanks again, Chef AJ.

New Chef AJ Video

Chef AJ, of the book Unprocessed and the Chef and the Dietician video series on YouTube, as a great new video out. Filmed in her own kitchen, she tells of how she finally lost those last few pounds that were dogging her and shows some of her favorite fast meals, some requiring no recipe at all.

After hearing her say she now substitutes beans in many of the recipes in her book Unprocessed, I'm now going to dig out that book again and take a new look at them. Looks like I found some new recipes to try while waiting for Jeff's new video to be released.

Making Rice Milk At Home

I love rice milk and use it almost exclusively for cooking and in tea. I know I really shouldn't be drinking the Rice Dreams brand because of the small amount of oil in it, but it's tastier than soy or nut based milks, and less gritty than oat milk.

Mary McDougall posted a few decades ago her recipe for making rice milk in your own kitchen using a cup of cooked rice (white was fine, she said) and 3 1/2 cups water, whirred together in a blender. The addition of a bit of sugar and/or vanilla is optional.

This person on the Protective Diet blog makes hers using a half cup of uncooked rice and 3 1/2 cups of water, then straining it through a nut/paint bag.

If my cars stay iced in much longer I'm going to have to start making my own milk, like it or not. If I have any rice already cooked (In my new Zojirushi Rice Cooker - another post), I'll use that, but if not, I'll try this method of using the rice uncooked.

Just before the last 3 storms that dumped 2 feet of snow and ice on us and encased our cars in solid sleet, I picked up a jar of raw almond butter. My son prefers the almond milk when he makes his mac and not cheese for lunches and dinners, and Ann Esselstyn says almond milk is what she and Dr. Esselstyn uses. Although I still have 2 quarts left in the pantry, they won't last forever, especially with more snow predicted for next week. As luck would have it, I purchased a nut milk bag recently, before all this bad weather hit, but never stocked up on almonds. The only place that sells them is the HFS, and even though my husband has taken the bus down to the store a few times since we've been snowed in, they haven't gotten any nuts in. I'm so glad I thought to buy the nut butter!

I made this for him once before and poured it into a washed out almond milk box and he never noticed a difference. Isn't it sad that I still have to play these kinds of tricks with a 30 year old? I feel sorry for any future wife of his! LOL

When these containers we currently have are gone, I'll tell him what I did in the past and let him know this is how we're going to do it from now on. It'll save a heck of a lot of money, and one little jar of almond butter is easier to store than a few quarts of ready made milk. And I'll set a good example by making my own rice milk, too. At least I'll finally get to use that strainer bag.

Engine 2 Elf Coach Ami Makes Sweet Potato Fries

Coach Ami demonstrates how to make Jeff Novick's Sweet Potato Fries for the broiler.

Notice the aluminum foil she's using. It's the new wrap from Reynolds that has one side silicone coated for non-stick cooking.
I've mentioned this foil before in another post, because this is what I now use on top of casseroles and lasagna so the top layer doesn't stick. Not only does it come out a few fractions of a cent cheaper than using parchment paper then foil, as Mary McDougall suggests, but it's okay to use in a broiler. As we all know (I hope), you can't use parchment paper in a broiler, and when cooking fat-free, it takes a sand-blaster to get broiled-on potatoes off a broiler tray. With Dr. Barnard the latest one to say not to use certain metals in cooking, such as aluminum, this silicone coated paper is the best of both worlds, since the aluminum never touches the food. This stuff has made my life a heck of a lot easier.

The 3 Biggest Mistakes People Make in their Diet

Here's Doctor McDougall explaining some of the biggest misconceptions people have about his food plan. It appears to be from an interview conducted back in July 2012.

Ann and Jane Essestyn Cooking Demonstrations

My son, the computer/electrical engineer, informed me that if a video is posted to a public site and is not behind a firewall such as a password, and there are some other Engine 2 Extra videos are behind such a firewall, then it's public and shareable, to go ahead and post them. I went to Vimeo and searched "Engine 2 Diet" and all the videos I shared this past weekend are there for public use, starting on page 5 of the search.

So, here are the last 2, but unlike the others, the Engine 2 Extra coaches aren't involved.

Here we have mother and daughter making hummus together.

These were displayed to the throngs at the Esselstyn farm in upstate New York on these giant screens under a tent. As I mentioned before, all Plantstock activities are held outdoors. In August. During the hot, humid dog days.

If Plantstock was held in the Spring or Fall, or even indoors, I would consider attending, since it's only (?) a 6 hour drive, but I can't even leave the house most days, the air is unbreathable, thanks to NY/NJ air pollution and my asthma and allergies. Hopefully next time the Essesltyns will record the entire weekend and sell DVD's at a reasonable price. But for now, we take these little snippets when we can.

Sorry About That

First, Debbie, thanks for the reply. I agree about the amount of rice.

Next order of business, the Engine 2 coaches requested that none of the Vimeo videos - meaning everything I had already posted and I know others had, too - be posted to the general public, only the YouTube ones. Since the only YouTube one shared this weekend is this 10 year old Dr. Esselstyn one, I guess I won't be sharing any other ones with you. Sorry.

Cooking with the Coaches - Iron Chef, Morning Breakfast Blend, and Syuffed Cucumbers

The Engine 2 Extra site finished off the second day of the Holiday Workshop with these videos of 2 of their coaches in the kitchen.

First is what they called Iron Chef, because they had some ingredients but wasn't sure what to make with them. A very simple, one-pot kale, sweet potato, mango stir-fry meal:

Nevermind. For some reason Natala pulled this video from the site while people were watching it! I hope it returns in the future.

The second was was this one, called Morning Breakfast Blend.

And they sneaked a third one in when the top one vanished. This one is with Coach Char:
